Toren has sought opportunities to serve as a link between different communities- be they different in age, language, socio-economic status or health. In the realm of clinical research, Toren has worked to connect members of the scientific community with those communities most impacted by HIV. One of the high points of his work has been his supportive role in the successful demonstration of pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV prevention, or PrEP. Now, Toren sees his work with the ANCHOR Study as another opportunity to help further scientific knowledge, improve health-outcomes and contribute to communities.
Toren ha procurado servir de vínculo entre comunidades distintas - ya sea por edad, idioma, condición socio-económica o salud. En el campo de la investigación clínica, Toren se ha dedicado a vincular investigadores con las comunidades más afectadas por el VIH. El colmo de sus esfuerzos en este área has sido su participación en la demostración exitosa de la profilaxis pre-exposición, o PrEP, para prevenir el VIH. Toren has also volunteered as an HIV-Testing Counselor for Clínica Esperanza at Mission Neighborhood Health Center. Currently, he volunteers as an emotional support counselor for seniors with the Friendship Line at the Institute on Aging.
Toren también ha sido consejero voluntario sobre el VIH con Clínica Esperanza, en el Centro de Salud del Vecindario de la Misión. Hoy día, él es consejero voluntario en la Línea de la Amistad, un servicio del Institute on Aging que brinda apoyo emocional a los adulto mayores.
