Monika Schmelz, Ph.D.

Dr. Monika Schmelz is the Principal Investigator of the ANCHOR-AZ Biorepository at the University of Arizona. She is a cell biologist with extensive experience in tissue collection and biobanking, and also serves as Co-Principal Investigator on the AIDS and Cancer Specimen Resource- Arizona Regional Biorepository and Tech Core (ACSR), a project supported by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). She is PI on a basic research study on the biology of Major Histocompatibility Complex Class II (MHCII) in diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL). Her research interest focusses especially on the kinetics of MHCII trafficking to the cell membrane in DLBCL and other lymphomas. Dr. Schmelz’s expertise encompasses protein chemistry, confocal microscopy, immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy.
