Jonathan Baker (he/him/his) has practiced as a PA since 2009 and joined Laser Surgery Care in New York City in 2014. He specializes in managing anal pathology with a focus on Human Papillomavirus, sexual health, and biomedical HIV prevention. He conducts clinical research as a co-investigator on NIH-funded clinical trials focused on HPV related disease. He mentors pre-med and pre-PA staff during a 2 gap year program and oversees staff in a supervisory role.
Jonathan regularly publishes articles on sexual health in peer reviewed journals, and he won the Paragon Award in Clinical Publishing in 2015 for his JAAPA article "Oral Preexposure Prophylaxis to Prevent HIV Infection: Clinical and Public Health Implications". He is a regular CME presenter at national and state CME conferences on various topics including anorectal pathology, infectious diseases, and sexual health. He is a peer reviewer for JAAPA, AAPA conference CME, and GLMA (Gay and Lesbian Medical Association) conference CME. He regularly lectures for PA Programs throughout the US.
Jonathan is a past president of the Lesbian, Bisexual, Gay, & Transgender PA Caucus and founded the LBGT PA Caucus Speakers Bureau which promotes education on sexual and gender minorities throughout the US. He has advocated for culturally sensitive policy as a Delegate in the AAPA HOD since 2015, including 2 years as Chief Delegate. In 2018 he was appointed as the AAPA Liaison to GLMA. Currently, he is the New York City District Director for the New York State Society of PAs.
Previously at the University of Pittsburgh he worked in the Anal Dysplasia Clinic and Research Program, the HIV Prevention/Rectal Microbicide Development Program, and the Multicenter AIDS Cohort Study (MACS)/Pitt Men's Study. He also served as Adjunct Faculty at Chatham University's Physician Assistant Program.
