Anthony Velasco

Mr. Anthony Velasco is a Nurse Practitioner and credentialed HIV Specialist. He has been working in HIV care since 2010. He provides compassionate care to people living with and without HIV.  As an ally of the Transgender community, he provides comprehensive gender-affirming care and advocates to create better access to safe and gender-affirming spaces for all.  His clinical research focuses not only on the ANCHOR study, but also on health disparities faced by the trans community in the Inland Empire. He belongs to the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) and is the Chair of DAP Health’s Transgender Health Program. 

Mr. Velasco earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees from San Diego State University. In recognition of his merit, both as a student and clinician, he received the SDSU Graduate Student Award for Excellence in Clinical Practice and the American Academy of Medical Surgical Nurses Career Mobility Award. In 2019, SD Voyager Magazine named Mr. Velasco as one of San Diego’s rising stars. 

Global health equity is also a passion for Mr. Velasco. His passion has moved him to serve in medical missions to Haiti and Honduras, in addition, to working in the Philippines with Global Health Force, a non-profit organization that provides access to free health care in underserved communities in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. 

In each of his professional endeavors he derives the greatest joy from building collaborative relationships with his patients and colleagues. Through collaboration with all members of the interdisciplinary team, Mr. Velasco strives to offer caring, comprehensive, and compassionate care.
