JoNell Efantis Potter, Ph.D.

Dr. Potter serves as Director of the Division of Research and Special Projects at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology. In this role, she is responsible for mentoring students, residents and fellows to complete their individualized research projects prior to completion of training. Dr. Potter is also Chief of the Women’s HIV Service. This gives her responsibility for the clinical and administrative oversight of the clinical program for women living with HIV. This includes establishing multidisciplinary models of care that facilitate comprehensive access to care in collaboration with the Adult HIV Service in the Department of Medicine and the Infectious Disease Division in the Department of Pediatrics.

Dr. Potter is also a committee Vice Chair on the Institutional Review Board where she has an interest in protection of participants in research. As Co-Director of the Alianza Component at the University of Miami Clinical and Translational Science Institute, Dr. Potter is interested in health problems highly prevalent in ethnic-/racial-minority and medically underserved communities. In the Miller School of Medicine Clinical Research Center (CRC), Dr. Potter serves as a Co-Director, which involves direct supervision of the Nurse Manager at the CRC and assisting in clinical research.
