Dr. Colón-López has many years' experience in researching Human papillomavirus (HPV). Her research investigates the relationship between infectious and chronic diseases, particularly HPV and HPV-related cancers, and cancer prevention and control among vulnerable and underserved populations. Dr. Colón-López is the Co-Leader of the Puerto Rico Cancer Control Community Outreach Project (PR CCCOP), along with Maria E. Fernandez (UT-Houston). Dr. Colón-López is also the co-leader in the U54 supplement study “Capacity Building for HIV-HPV Clinical Trials Recruitment among Minority Underserved Populations of Hispanic Origin”, along with Dr. Ana P. Ortiz (UPR-Medical Sciences Campus). During the past years, Dr. Colón-López has been the PI of several NIH funded studies and author on peer-reviewed publications on HPV infection in high-risk men as well as epidemiological studies on HPV-related cancers on HIV positive men and women in Puerto Rico.
She currently serves on the Curriculum Revision Committee of the Program of Research Evaluation for the Graduate School of Public Health, University of Puerto Rico
